Frequently asked questions

Who is G.O.A.T. The Art Game for?

Anyone and everyone with a recommended age of 10-110yo.  Like the best games in history, G.O.A.T. is simple in concept but each game is new and exciting!

How many people can play?

At least three and as many as six single players (but there have been legendary games with 6 teams of 2 players each…12 players!)

What if I don’t know zip about art?

The game does not discriminate, if you can read and your curious you can play. And if you’re competitive, you will have an edge. Whether you know nothing or next to nothing about art, artists or art auctions, a seasoned collector or anything in between, everyone has an equal chance to become the G.O.A.T.!

Where can I buy the game?

The Classic Edition, which is limited to 500 games, is only available through this website and only for a limited time.  Once the edition sells out, it is closed.

Tell me more about the creation of G.O.A.T.The Art Game?

G.O.A.T. was created by the artist collaborative DARNstudio as a response to the questions: Who determines what makes a great work of art?  Who gets to enjoy it? Who is it for? And who is ignored?

Tell more about the artworks in the game?

Twenty-five artworks ranging in medium (paint, print, sculpture, pottery…) and created across three centuries, represented by artists such as: William Henry Johnson, Augusta Savage, Richmond Barthe, David Drake, Charles Ethan Porter, Frederic Bazille, and Henry Osawa Tanner, to name just a few of the greats!

Is G.O.A.T. an ARTWORK or a GAME?

Yes,it’s both. That’s what makes the game so special!  The very first G.O.A.T. game was conceived as a social sculpture and commissioned by The Newark Museum of Art.  This version is housed in its own game room where visitors to the museum can activate the sculpture by playing the game.  Now, the Collectors Edistion is available as an extension of the original social sculpture which means: when you play G.O.A.T. you are collaborating with the original artists to activate the artwork! You are an artist collaborator!

Why does G.O.A.T. the art game cost more than other board games?

Because you’re not just buying a game, you’re buying a limited edition artwork, too! You’re also investing in countless hours of laughter, engaging in joyful competition, sparking interesting conversations about art, learning about art and artists and creating unforgettable memories with family and friends. Any one of these is great but altogether? Priceless!

What is a “limited edition” and why does it matter?

A limited edition artwork is produced in a fixed, predetermined number of works, making it scarce and generally more valuable due to its limited availability.  Each G.O.A.T. game is signed and numbered by the artist to indicate its special place within the edition run.

Why does art matter?

Art shapes our understanding of the world, reflecting emotions, ideas, and cultures.  It sparks conversations and provokes thought, offering unique perspectives.  G.O.A.T. The Art Game explores creativity and strategy, illustrating how art fuels imagination and connection.  Art matters because it challenges us to see beyond the ordinary, creating bonds through shared experiences and stories, both in the art gallery and around a board game.

How do I learn more about artists and art?

Like the air we breathe, art is all around us so DIVE IN!  Read books, watch programs, explore museums, connect through social media, pick up a pencil. The beautiful thing is that art can be made by anyone and be most anything, it’s all up to you to expand your mind and think outside the box.
